At the end of the Wakasa Railway line lies Wakasa Station, home to a charming wooden station building that retains the atmosphere of the Showa era, as well as the beautifully preserved C12 167 steam locomotive, which remains in operational condition today.

The tour begins with special access to the steam locomotive, accompanied by commentary from Wakasa Railway staff. Afterwards, a local guide leads you through the historic streets of Wakasa-juku, including Kariya-dori and Kura-dori, where traditional architecture reflects ingenious adaptations to the region’s heavy snowfall and clear streams continue to flow alongside the streets.
